Three Needs, One Solution
Actiontec DSL Modem Rolls Three Devices Into One Tool

Creating a home network can mean spending money on separate hardware, such as a modem, a wireless router, and a multiport Ethernet switch. Then having to set up your new hardware purchases can also cost you precious time. With the Actiontec Electronics GT724WGR ($89.99; www.actiontec.com), you get all three of these devices rolled into a single product, saving you both time and money.

With all the cords and computer accessories people have to contend with in a limited amount of space, it can be difficult to find room for a modem, a wireless router, and an Ethernet switch. With the three-in-one design of the GT724WGR, you won’t need to find the space for three separate devices, making it ideal for anyone who wants an integrated home-networking solution.

The GT724WGR is a full-rate ADSL modem that can reach data rates of up to 24Mbps downstream and up to 1Mbps upstream (depending on your ISP’s service package). But not all of your devices may have wireless capabilities, and a wired connection can be more reliable and mean quicker transfer rates. For these reasons, the GT724WGR also offers a 4-port Ethernet switch, which lets you connect up to four components, such as a computer, Internet set-top box, or Internet phone device.

On the wireless end, the GT724WGR’s 802.11g wireless router lets you easily connect wireless devices, such as notebooks and wireless printers. You can send and receive information at speeds up to 54Mbps, and the wireless router is backward-compatible with 802.11b devices.

In addition to its three-in-one design, the GT724WGR works as an Internet firewall to protect you from hazards, such as hackers and other cyber criminals. The GT724WGR features WEP (Wired Equivalent Privacy) 64-, 128-, or 256-bit encryption and WPA (Wi-Fi Protected Access) as a defense. These security features (along with Web site blocking, Internet traffic logging, Denial of Service protection, and other security features) add multiple layers of protection designed to put your mind at ease, knowing your information is safe from online predators.

For ease of use, the GT724WGR has an AutoConnect feature engineered to automatically connect you to your DSL service regardless of your computer or operating system. Also, Actiontec Electronics designed the graphical user interface to make it simple for users to check the status of the network and to check the broadband connection’s IP address. So, you don’t need a vast amount of home-networking knowledge and experience to be able to operate the GT724WGR.

Everyone could use more time-savers and space-savers, and with the GT724-WGR, you get both, along with a secure home network.
