Casio EV-4500 | |
We put Casio's port-able color television to the test in the north end of Notre Dame stadium on a Saturday afternoon in September. The first thing that impressed us was the picture. We expected the high sun to interfere with our view of the action on-screen. It didn't. The EV-4500's 4-inch anti-glare display not only provided a clear picture of the local broadcast but also gave fans in neighboring seats a good look. The display wasn't the only thing everyone liked about Casio's portable TV, though. Reception was remarkable, as we pulled in all of the major networks without extending the rod antenna. The tuning pad made it easy to select channels in both the VHF and UHF frequencies, although we wished the unit had a channel memory feature. As it is, we had to manually retune the TV each time we turned it on. The EV-4500 runs on four AA alkaline batteries. You can expect to get about two hours of viewing from one set, so plan accordingly when taking the TV to a game or weekend camping trip. Invest in an AC or car adapter if you plan to use the TV in your home or automobile. You also may want to get headphones and a carrying case for the device. The headphones come in handy when you're trying to hear the audio in a noisy venue such as a sports stadium, and the carrying case eliminates the hassle of holding the unprotected 5- x 6-inch device in your hands all day. by Jeff Dodd |
